HOW TO CONVERT TRACKS, ROUTES AND WAYPOINTS

Può capitare di dover gestire tracce e rotte in diversi formati per l'utilizzo su software e dispositivi GPS diversi. Può anche capitare di essere nella necessità di trasformare tracce in rotte o viceversa, perché magari il nostro dispositivo GPS è datato.

Sometimes you need to manage tracks and routes in various formats for use on various software and GPS devices. It can also happen to be in need of turning tracks routes or vice-versa, because maybe our GPS device is dated.

In questi casi ci vengono in aiuto alcuni programmi freeware.

In these cases there are some freeware programs to help us.

GPS-BABEL

Il primo, GPS-Babel, permette di convertire waypoints, tracce e rotte in tanti formati. Inoltre, usando l'opzione "FILTRO", si possono convertire tra loro Tracce-Rotte-Waypoints.
Unica pecca è che trasformando Tracce in Rotte restano lungo il percorso memorizzati numerosi Waypoints visibili come bandiere. Un po' fastidioso perchè riempono il monitor del PC o del dispositivo GPS, rendendo più complicata la lettura della rotta mentre si guida.

The first, GPSBabel, will convert waypoints, tracks and routes in many formats. Also, using the option "FILTER", you can convert between them Traces-Routes-Waypoints.

The only flaw is that transforming Traces  in Routes, along the way remain saved many waypoints as visible flags. A bit annoying because they fill the PC monitor or GPS device, making it more difficult to read the route while driving.

WIN GDB3

Per ovviare a questo problema possiamo usare un'altro software, sempre gratuito, chioamato WIN GDB3. Pur traducendo tra loro un numero minore di formati di file diversi per GPS, permette di convertire Tracce in Rotte rendendo invisibili i punti intermedi.

To overcome this problem we can use another software, always free, named WIN GDB3. Even though that translating between them a smaller number of different file formats for GPS, it will convert Traces in Routes wihout intermediate waypoints.
