⚠️ALERT: Entry into Tunisia by sea
It should be noted that at the Port of "La Goulette" there have been incidents of denial of entry into Tunisia by travelers (Italians and Europeans) who did not have a hotel voucher. According to the experience of several travelers, the border authorities of the Port of "La Goulette" did not consider it sufficient to show the booking of non-hotel accommodation facilities (eg. B & Bs, holiday homes) or the declaration of staying with relatives or friends. ... ARRIVO A LA GOULETTE - ARRIVING A LA GOULETTE
KAIROUAN (142km)
GAFSA (203km)
In Gafsa there are beautiful ruins of the Roman city of Sufetula. They are also seen passing on the road. The city is not attractive and the hotels are not that great. The advice is to program your legs in order to visit the ruins passing through.
TAMERZA (117km)
![]() |
| Canyons |
![]() |
| Big waterfall |
This in 2010 was a campsite with clean bungalows.
From there you go directly to the palm plantation and to one of the waterfalls. You can be guided into the canyon of the dry river. Don't go alone without asking first, because a sudden flood can occur.
Before Tamerza you can find another waterfall, more famous. You can also visit the old village destroyed by a flood of 1969, perched on a small promontory on the oued.
North of Tamerza is Mides. After the palm grove there is the old city.
Beautiful view of the canyon, also used as a set in the movie Star Wars.
NEFTA (72km)
On the following day you can visit the oasis of Nefta, and, after a few kilometers of corrugee track, the set of the star port of Mos Espa, also in "Star Wars". In front of the parking there is a dune coast where you can go up with the bikes.
North of the site are the dunes where Meoni trained.
You can then stop at the oasis of Tozeur before taking the asphalt that crosses the Chott el Djerid, the great salt lake.
So arrive at Douz.
TOZEUR
.
DOUZ (148km)
Taking into account that in Douz, for tourism, winter is high season.
In Douz you can visit the market square, take the picture under the "sahara key" (a monument for tourists) and see the camel track. You can base yourself on the camel race track to "taste" the sand.
KSAR GHILANE (144km)

| Desert dunes in Eastern Grand Erg |
Una bravissima persona.
A very good person.
The pool of hot water is very relaxing.
Alternatively it is also nice to sleep with your tent in the dunes just outside the oasis. Please notify the police there in the oasis.
If you drink alcohol, do not consume them at the oasis bar tables. You have to move away.
Ah ..... don't look at the starry sky, otherwise you catch the "African Bug".
MAATMATA (100km)
SFAX (223km)
In passing, I took the time to wander the souk. Very large and very beautiful.
MAHDIA (116km)
This hotel is small but clean. The owner was a swimming champion.
Mahdia is a seaside resort with white beaches. Visit the center and the sea cemetery at the tip.
From here you can easily return to the port of la Goulette.
ALTRI SITI DI INTERESSE - OTHER INTERESTING PLACES
CONSIGLI SEMPRE VALIDI - ALWAYS VALID ADVICES
Always negotiate prices BEFORE using a service, a meal, a sandwich, a room, etc.
Friday is a day of prayer. It may be that near the mosques (especially in Kairouan) you will find some exalted ones. Nothing has ever happened to me, but better avoided.
to eat along the transfer to the south I recommend the many stands along the road that roast lamb. Very good and at great prices. Those with camel's heads provide camel meat, otherwise they cook lamb. Alternative in the cities are the sandwich bars, where you can choose the sandwich toppings.
at the port, buy a Tunisiana phone card. It takes you anywhere you go up to Ksar Ghilane, and with 10cent per minute you call in Italy.
watch out for asphalt that is very slippery.
Don't take pictures of police officers or military barracks. It is forbidden.
It is however a good rule to ask someone before taking pictures.
prepare some leaflets with name, surname date and place of birth citizenship residence model and license plate of the vehicle. Date of entry into Tunisia, city of provenance and destination city.
You will need them to speed up checks at chekpoints, handing them over to the Gendarmerie or the Police.
buy the Lonely Planet guide. Although it hasn't been updated for years, it's still very reliable.
As roadmap I suggest the Marco Polo, more resistant and more updated in the details of the Michelin.
at Customs at La Goulette you can take out a one-month RC insurance for the bike for only € 9. I strongly advise you to sign one, given the cheap price.
for the political situation in the country I refer you to the website of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Foreign Affair website , with a very useful map on forbidden areas.
NOTA IMPORTANTE - IMPORTANT NOTICE
If you find any significant differences with respect to what I have indicated, you can send me an e-mail to avventuraid@gmail.com. I can thus modify this post and provide more detailed information to those who should use it. Tjank you.

Capitolo 4 - giacca e moto Chapter 4 - jacket and motorbike
Giacca
Jacket
In the jacket you can keep your documents placed into an inside pocket, and closed in a sealed container. Otherwise we can bring:- The high visibility vest
- the raincoat. This should be of good quality. Possibly slightly waxed inside and seams and zips "taped" (mine has a very short zip and is weareable from the head as a sweater). Must be a little loose fitting, considering offroad-chest protections and backpack, but not too much not to be an impediment at high speeds. To this you must have also a eleastic adjustable bottom closure. It's another one of those dual-use items, because above all protects from rain, while if you put it under the jacket, helps to maintain body temperature.
Moto
Motorbike
On the bike it is better to fix the largest number of tools, especially those heavier.
-three tire levers
-chaincutter
-file
-claws
But always remember the concept "heavier = more low as possible."
Conclusioni
Conclusions
In addition to what I put in this guide, you have to consider the climate in the period in which you will travel, the availability of certain spare parts in the places where you go, as well as defects of the bike.
And remember, wherever you are, will be easy to buy a wool jersey for yourself, but it might be impossible to find a pair of oil seals for your fork!

CAPITOLO 3 - BISACCE CHAPTER 3 - SADDLEBAGS
venerdì 25 novembre 2016
CAPITOLO 2 - MARSUPIO ATTREZZI E PRIMO SOCCORSO CHAPTER 2 - BAG TOOLS AND FIRST AID
Under the backpack, tied at the waist, it can be fixed a fanny pack for tools.
I prefer to use a simple model, as more versatile. At this also fixed an aluminum bottle for 1/2 liter of water with dissolved minerals (the bladder of the camel-back acquires an unpleasant taste if you put something other than plain water).
ATTREZZI
TOOLS

Nastro telato
Nastro isolante

Inside containing a host of most commonly used tools. This set of tools should be used, at least for the first few times, when performing routine maintenance on the bike, to be sure that you have put in all the necessary keys.
In case of my Husqvarna TE610E MY2007, I take in tow:
A pair of breathable rubberized gloves

PRONTO SOCCORSO
EMERGENCY ROOM

We settle here also also the necessary for first aid. Not the medicines, you may use the rest of the luggage.
