Come fare: serbatoio Aprilia Tuareg su Husqvarna TE 610

Marocco

🇬🇧Many ask me how it is possible to mount the 20 liter tank of the Aprilia Tuareg Rally 125 m.y. 1994 on the Husqvarna TE 610 2005-2010, both with carburetor and electronic injection, as well as on the Husqvarna TE 630.

🇬🇧 This tank allows to increase the range of action in areas with little anthropization, reducing costs. The solutions on the market offered by SafariTank and IMS are in fact quite expensive, while this tank is easily available at figures ranging from 30 to 100 €.
It also does not require the replacement of the saddle.

🇬🇧 To install it on the bike you need to build two supports.

🇬🇧 A front one which is fixed to the frame in the steering head area and which reproduces the "roller" attachment on which the special guides fit into the internal part of the tank. This support can be made of iron or aluminum, and is anchored to the frame by means of the front fixing screw of the original tank and a U-shaped U-bolt that embraces the beam that reinforces the "tube beam" in the attachment to the steering head. The attachment rollers can be reproduced by passing through this structure a section of 10mm threaded bar, covered with PVC tube, self-amalgamating tape and, to finish the whole, silicone plugs that are normally used under the legs of the chairs.

🇬🇧 A second support, to be fixed to the two small rear fixing "horns" of the original tank, is a simple plate which serves to reproduce the threaded hole to house the rear fixing screw of the ex-Aprilia tank.

🇬🇧 Furthermore, from the left side, to fill the space left to run the belly of the exhaust expansion for the Tuareg 2-stroke engine, I recommend interposing a rubber shim, to be fixed with clamps to the reinforcements of the radiators which, although these are protected from shocks by the large tank, I still recommend mounting.

🇬🇧 I also recommend filling the space that is created between the frame and the lower part of the tube with material that helps to support the weight of the full tank, since perhaps with the repeated stresses of off-road driving at high speed, it could crack. I simply lined the frame and the engine with cellophane, and after mounting the tank, I sprayed polyurethane foam into the space in question, thus creating the "negative" shape of the frame that remains attached to the tank. Once dry, the polyurethane can easily be finished with the help of a cutter.

🇬🇧 After various enduro tests and repeated uses on the road in Italy, Morocco and the Balkans, for a total of over 10,000km, I can confidently state that there are no contraindications in using all of the above.
Testing!!!

🇬🇧 Obviously, for the electronic injection versions, an external pump must be installed, to be housed perhaps in that space between the radiator and the tank in which I have inserted the rubber shim.

🇮🇹Buon divertimento nella preparazione e Buone avventure durante i vostri raid!!
🇬🇧 Have fun preparing and Happy adventures during your raids !!

🇬🇧 PS: if someone were to install it on a version i.e. and should you find some solution for the injection pump, if you email me a description of the operations accompanied by photos, I will be happy to publish them below.

🇬🇧 In the "Marathon" stage of this # Dakar2021, Toby Price, official KTM rider, had the misfortune of shearing the rear tire.

The solution he has adopted has left many astonished, especially since he has achieved the intended purpose.

And not only! The solution of "tying" the tire with "electric clamps" not only resisted throughout the next day's stage, but also allowed him to finish second place ranking in the day's stage!

But his secret is that those used were not simple plastic ties, but stainless steel ties coated in polyester with ball locking.

Surely they could also come in handy on an adventure trip, for emergency repairs. (Not necessarily to. the wheel)

Zaini e borselli come ulteriori accessori.

🇬🇧 During a trip, we carry our luggage in rigid trunks, or soft saddlebags. Backpacks and purses as additional accessories.

Whatever type of luggage you use, it will be difficult for it to guarantee a real protection of the objects inside from mud, water or the finest desert sand. For the type of material with which it is built, or for breaks in the structure due to accidents along the way.

🇬🇧 This is why many of us usually pack the contents of our suitcases, be it clothes, documents or electronic equipment.

But which envelopes to use? Here are the ones I chose.

🇮🇹 Da sinistra a destra potete vedere:

1. buste da caffè

2. sacchetti gelo Ikea

3. buste usate dai corrieri

4. buste per "crema di caffè"

🇬🇧 From left to right you can see:

1. coffee bags

2. Ikea frost bags

3. envelopes used by couriers

4. "coffee cream" bags

🇬🇧 1. the coffee bags

Although these envelopes do not present, once opened, the possibility of being closed again, they are nevertheless very robust.

They generally come in two formats: 250gr and 1Kg.

The smaller ones can contain spare hardware, or, as in the case in the photo, the set of bits for 1/4 " ratchet and T-wrenches.

The larger ones can easily protect, even against abrasion from falling, objects carried out of the bags. Personally I have often used them to carry the replacement inner-tube.

🇮🇹 2. sacchetti gelo Ikea

🇬🇧 2. Ikea frost bags

Sufficinetemente sturdy and equipped with hermetic closure, they are excellent for carrying clothing, documents and electronic accessories, such as the USB charger.

They can also be used as compression bags for clothing, thus reducing the volume of luggage.

Available in various sizes, the 6 liters safely contain a sweater in technical material. In the 4,5 liter ones you can put t-shirts and pants. in the 1 lt you can put the documents and the 0,4lt are suitable for underwear and socks.

🇬🇧 3. Postal Courier Envelopes

They are similar to coffee ones due to the lack of closure once opened, but they are a little less robust but, generally, larger. They can be used to hold a pair of sneakers, rolling up the excess to prevent water from entering and blocking them with a piece of duct tape or elastic.

🇬🇧 4. "Coffee cream" bags

You can find them at your bartender, and once well washed and dried, they can be used to carry a supply of water or motor oil inside the saddlebags, taking care not to overfill them and to place them in the middle of the luggage between the clothes. so that they are less affected by any stresses due to possible falls.

L'altro giorno stavo osseevando una Benelli Leoncino 500 Trail, e....
A few days ago I was looking at a Benelli Leoncino 500 Trail, and....

-500cm3
-47,6cv
-Peso a secco 170kg

Well, I'm not surely a concept designer, I'm only a traveller, but...what about my sketch?

An Adventure Bike handling, cheap, single cylinder (for a good torque)

Starting from a Benelli Leoncino Trail:
-500cc
-35Kw (47,6hp)
-170kg dry weight

modified to:
-21"-18" wheels (for more choice of tyre type)
-interaxes will become approximately to 1490mm (really a short bike, relating to an Husqvarna 701 which has 1504mm ), wich guarantees a good handling.
-height from the ground will become approximately  235mm
-bigger tank about 20lt (starting 12,5lt) for 250 miles of range
-lifting exahust
-high windshield for long highway transfers

I BAMBINI DEL MAROCCO -MAROCCAN CHILDREN
Riparazione del terminale sul djbel Rahart - exhaust repairing on a trail on djebel Rahart

I bambini son bambini.

Children are children. They adapt to situations and are selfish. It is Nature that wants puppies like this, otherwise they would not survive in wildlife.  But they are always beautiful and pleasant in their "loudness". I'd spend hours watching the children play. Maybe because I am a father, and I miss my children after two days since I left.
In Morocco, my first time in that country, I was particularly impressed by some encounters.

I BAMBINI DI AIN DFALI
AIN DFALI CHILDRENS
Ain Dfali.

Ain Dfali. Village in the north. We spent the night in a sleeping bag on the porch of a bank due to a breakdown in one of our bikes. In the morning at dawn we wake up and have breakfast on the same porch. Chocolate chip cookies, cold milk and some fruit, purchased in a couple of small food outlets. Nature "calls", and in the bus terminal, a dirt square reduced to an open-air dump, the public toilet is closed with a chain and a padlock. All that remains is to cross it and head towards the fields. Hens scratching the remains of garbage bags already rummaged by stray dogs, and a corrugated iron slum, the "heart" of the village behind the facade coated by the bank along the highway. Boys and girls of all ages started to emerge from that band of bandons. Spotlessly clean, with shiny shoes and draped ironed aprons. Those of the little girls, white in color I could safely call them immaculate, such was perfection.
Dignity does not have a social class.

I BAMBINI DEL CIRQUE DU JAFFAR
CIRQUE DU JAFFAR CHILDREBS

The Cirque du Jaffar track. A slightly gray October morning. There is no one, nor can we see traces of a recent passage of motorbikes or 4x4s. In a curve, two children, brother and older sister, hug each other. I stop to say goodbye and make them a little happy. They try to convince me to go home for a "Thé-berber", the traditional mint tea. I refuse with a smile. I explain that we have a long way to go today. The eyes become sad. With obvious embarrassment they try to pronounce a "bob bon". I'm sorry. I have no candy. I am more hurt than they are. In an attempt to "remedy" gestures, I invite them to get on the bike with me. The terror is painted in the wide eyes. The older sister hugs her brother evidently intimidated. Thinking that the fear is that of falling and getting hurt I hurry to explain that the engine will remain off, that I will not move from there. But nothing. They take another step back. He comes running from who knows where the mother. They relax. Renew his invitation to enter their home for tea. A tip of a few Dirhams must be a good extra. I apologize to you. I renew my invitation to go up because I have no sweets, thinking that with the mother present I feel more relaxed. She also nods worriedly. At the end he asks me for the two detergent cans that I had brought to keep an emergency supply of petrol, but which were punctured with the stones shot in the air by the rear wheel. It does nothing for them, it makes me understand that they will fix them. I would have thrown them to the first country, but for them blocks on those mountains have a great value.
I am a little relieved to have managed to satisfy at least one of their requests. But in the dust raised by the bike, I can only continue to review the fearful eyes of those children at the offer to get on the saddle. Who knows what could have triggered that reaction. I go away hoping that this is only due to some "legend", and not to some sad episode that happened in those places.

I BAMBINI DEL JEBEL RAHART
JEBEL RAHART CHILDRENS

Li guardo.

On a very stony track of a desolate plateau, the sound of the terminal of my motorbike, already annoying enough because it is pierced, turns into a croaking scream! He gave up permanently. All that remains is to stop and close the two halves in some way.
A group of children appears out of nowhere. Quietly they come close to me, who am trafficking to repair the terminal. Every now and then they exchange a few words among themselves, in a low voice, almost fearing to disturb.
After work and reassembled everything I am going to collect the residues. A pair of dirty latex gloves, a few pieces of iron wire .... They block me making me understand that they take them. I tell them to pay attention to the sharp tin. They nod, then in a circle they begin to divide that "treasure" rained from the sky. I look at them. I open the backpack, show them how an electrician's band of the "reusable" ones works, after which I deliver a sufficient number to the largest, who starts to divide them among the others. The eyes of a happy child know how to convey a lot of joy. As well as their arms that frantically wave at your greeting.

I BAMBINI DI M'HAMID
M'HAMID CHILDRENS

M'hamid.

M'hamid. Southeast Morocco, near the Algerian border. We arrive after a morning of driving on the stony track that leads to Lake Iriki from Foum Zguid, followed by the sand of the Erg Chigaga. Once in the village we fill the tanks and stop in the shade to decide the next itinerary. In no time we find ourselves surrounded by a horde of children of all ages. Barefoot mostly. They surround us loud and all our attention. "Cadeau", "Bon Bon", "Argeant". I can't even exchange a meaningful sentence with my travel companion. Known on bikes and in their hands, electrician ties exhibited as ornaments, almost trophies. I open the backpack and distribute one for each, trying to avoid the bullying of the older ones on the younger ones. The reaction is unexpected. Instead of appeasing their spirits, I find myself under a crossfire of pressing requests, of hands that touch and try to open everything. We decide to leave the center of the country and continue our conversation elsewhere.
M'hamid. Door of the Erg Chigaga. Beaten by mass tourism. People who come there without the slightest awareness of the value of things in a remote corner of a country where an electrician strap is a real treasure. I am reminded of the request: "Argeant". Who knows how many times someone will have left a 10 Dirham (1 euro) coin to those children. How many times have you given him the luxury of a CocaCola in exchange for nothing, in a society where bartering and exchanging favors still have the intrinsic value of respecting things, roles, and the value of "making a living" albeit getting by. We have created a small army of beggars, who will make ends meet by begging, or even worse by sending their children to beg. In a place where everything goes sweaty, even if only for the hostility of the environment in which you live, lazing until the arrival of the first bus or 4x4 is certainly a comfortable option.

I BAMBINI DELL'ALTO ATLANTE
HIGH-ATLAS CHILDRENS

E rimane cosí, imbambolato, a guardarmi passare. Secondi che son sembrati minuti. E lui imbambolato che continua a fissarmi incredulo mentre mi allontano.

A track in the middle of Jebel Irhoud, a stone house tens of kilometers away from others, a couple of children of about 3-4 years run out towards the "street" waving their little hands, smiling. Tattered clothes, barefoot and colored feet from the red earth of the Atlas, as well as the hands. Then, as soon as they focus, the hand of one of them freezes and remains suspended in the air, motionless. The smile disappears and the eyes widen hallucinated. And so he remains, dazed, watching me go by. Seconds that seemed like minutes. And he dazed that continues to stare at me in disbelief as I walk away.
There on that track of the Moroccan High Atlas, a child saw a motorcycle. Perhaps for the first time since he has memory. Certainly an unforgettable moment, which will accompany him by the hand in his childhood dreams, at sunset in his bed.

It should be noted that at the Port of "La Goulette" there have been incidents of denial of entry into Tunisia by travelers (Italians and Europeans) who did not have a hotel voucher.  According to the experience of several travelers, the border authorities of the Port of "La Goulette" did not consider it sufficient to show the booking of non-hotel accommodation facilities (eg. B & Bs, holiday homes) or the declaration of staying with relatives or friends.  ... Always negotiate prices BEFORE using a service, a meal, a sandwich, a room, etc.

Friday is a day of prayer. It may be that near the mosques (especially in Kairouan) you will find some exalted ones. Nothing has ever happened to me, but better avoided.

Ottimo e a ottimi prezzi.
