Homemade "snow chains" for Motorbike and "removable garter bands"

L'inverno è bello andare in moto. L'aria è piú fresca, i rumori piú ovattati. Peró se nevica? Ci sono in commercio delle catene, che costano un po'. E allora ecco una buona idea su come realizzarle in casa.

Winter is nice to ride a motorcycle . The air is fresher, noises are muffled. But if it snows ? There are snowchains for motorbikes, which cost a bit. So here there's a good idea on how to implement them at home.

Avete bisogno di uno spezzone di catena in acciaio di misura adeguata, due moschettoni sempre in acciaio e un elastico in gomma di grosse dimensioni. Quello che vedete si usa per fissare le tende da campeggio ai picchetti. Ricordate anche di legare con una cordicella abbastanza robusta i due moschettoni tra loro, lasciandola peró un po' lasca, in modo che l'elastico possa ammortizzare le trazioni che la catena subisce, però senza allungarsi fino alla rottura. Se non vi fidate potete anche unire tra loro i moschettoni di ogni lato sempre con della cordicella robusta e/o elastici grandi.

Se non volete che i cerchi si rovinino, potete inserire la catena in un pezzo di camera d'aria da bici di adeguata lunghezza. Quando avrete chiuso i due moschettoni sulla catena, potete farla scorrere in modo che si posizioni sul cerchio.

Otto catene per ruota possono bastare.

E se invece nei giorni precedenti dei veicoli pesanti hanno pressato la neve e si è creato uno spesso strato di ghiaccio? Dato che il peso di una moto non è lo stesso di un auto, molto spesso le catene non riescono a rompere il ghiaccio per ancorarsi. Ecco allora che con alcuni rivetti di grandi dimensioni, dadi d'acciaio, chiusure a clip per valigette e qualche metro di un tessuto misto tela-gomma, il tutto facilmente reperibile nei negozi di hobbistica, potete realizzare delle bande chiodate rimovibili.

Piegate a metá il tessuto, tagliatelo leggermente piú corto della circonferenza della ruota, in modo che la clip lo tenga in tensione sulla stessa. Rivettate la clip. Prendete le misure per il posizionamento degli artigli sul battistrada (io ne uso 2 sull'anteriore e 3 sul posteriore), e poi rivettate i dadi con i dadi grossi.

Fate attenzione a posizionare l'anello largo del rivetto all'interno della banda e a togliere eventuali resti del perno del rivetto che rovinerebbero il battistrada.

Scegliete inoltre le clip che abbiano un piccolo occhiello di sicurezza, in modo che facendovi passare una piccola fascetta fermacavi, si eviterá che la clip si apra accidentalmente durante la marcia.

Anche stavolta otto bande per ruota possono bastare.

Questo sistema non rovina i cerchi.

Quanto sopra è stato da me personalmente realizzato, nonchè testato all'Elefantentreffen.

You need a length of chain in the proper size steel, two more steel carabiners and a far rubber band. What you see is used to secure the tents on the picket lines. Remember also to bind with a fairly strong string, the two carabiners between them, though leaving a little 'loose, so that the elastic can amortize the tractions that the chain undergoes, however without stretching until failure. If you do not trust can also joining the carabiners of each side with the strong string, and/or large rubber bands.

If you do not want the wheels will be damaged, you can enter the chain in a piece of suitable length bicycle inner tube. When you have closed the two hooks on the chain, you can scroll it so that it sets on the rim.

Eight chains for wheel may suffice.

Fold in half the fabric, slightly more short-cut of the wheel circumference, so that the clip takes in the voltage on the same. Riveted clip. Take measures for placement of the claws on the tread (I will use 2 at the front and 3 at the rear), and then riveted the dice with the big nuts.

Be sure to place the ring off of the rivet within the band and to remove any remnants of the rivet pin that would ruin the tread.

also choose clips that have a small security loop, so that by passing a small cable tie, will prevent the clip opens accidentally while driving.
Again eight bands per wheel may suffice.

This system does not damage the rims.
